Battery Safety & Recycling
Last updated: October 23, 2026 · Responsible company: Aerofoils USA Inc.
Your Aerofoils eFoil runs on a lithium-ion battery pack of 1,130 Wh (Light Battery, 19.4 lb) or 2,120 Wh (Endurance Battery, 28.7 lb). Treated well, it gives you many seasons of riding. These are the most important rules; the Owner's Manual has the full details.
Charging
- Use only the Aerofoils charger supplied with your eFoil.
- Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface in a dry, ventilated place, away from flammable materials, and stay nearby while it charges.
- Let a warm battery cool down first, and charge only within the temperature range given in the battery data sheet in our support section.
Storage
- For longer storage, follow the storage charge level and temperature range in the battery data sheet, and keep the battery in a dry place.
- Never leave it in direct sun or in a hot car.
- After riding in salt water, rinse with fresh water and let everything dry before opening the battery compartment.
Damaged Batteries
If a battery is dented, swollen, cracked or leaking, smells unusual, or gets hot when not in use, stop using it at once. If you can do so safely, move it outdoors, away from buildings and anything flammable. Do not charge, open or ship it. Contact us at support.usa@aerofoils.com or +1 917 420 0903 and we will arrange a safe collection. In case of fire, call 911.
Traveling With Your Battery
- By car: secure the battery, protect the connectors and keep it away from heat.
- By air: eFoil batteries exceed the FAA's 160 Wh limit, so they cannot go on passenger flights, in carry-on or checked baggage. Rent a battery locally at your destination.
- By carrier: batteries are Class 9 hazardous materials and must be packed, labeled and shipped by trained staff. Never ship one yourself.
Recycling and Free Take-Back
- Never put a lithium-ion battery in household trash or curbside recycling. It can start fires in trucks and recycling plants.
- Aerofoils takes back every battery we have sold, free of charge. Email support.usa@aerofoils.com and we send a prepaid, compliant shipping kit or arrange a pickup. This includes California residents returning rechargeable batteries bought from us.
- You can also take batteries to a household hazardous waste facility or a battery drop-off site (The Battery Network locator, formerly Call2Recycle). Call ahead, as not every site accepts large batteries, and cover the connectors with non-conductive tape.
- The remote controller has a built-in battery. Do not remove it; return the remote to us or recycle it as electronic waste.
- Where state law requires producers to take part in a battery stewardship program, Aerofoils USA Inc. takes part.
